INSTRUMENTAL & VOCAL TUITION PROGRAMME                                     Meet the team

Music Generation Sligo’s vision is to facilitate the development of a sustainable framework for the delivery of group tuition in a number of centres across the county. In 2013/2014 MGS partnered with Sligo School of Rock and Sligo Academy of Music to create a tutor panel and to develop a quality and consistent Instrumental Tuition Service.

The number of tuition centres across Sligo County has increased since the establishment of the first after-school tuition programme in December 2012. Easkey in West Sligo was the first centre to be set up. Ballymote and Grange followed in September 2013.

In March 2014 MGS advertised for musicians with the necessary experience, qualifications and expertise to work with children and young people across a range of opportunities. A panel of musicians has been established from which eighteen are now directly employed by Mayo Sligo Leitrim ETB on annual part-time contracts to cater for the growing demand in the Instrumental & Vocal Tuition and the Discovering Music Programmes.

A new centre was set up in Gurteen in September 2014 as well as a Brass Programme in Sligo town and MGS currently employs twelve tutors on the Instrumental & Vocal Tuition Programme in Easkey, Gurteen, Ballymote, Grange & Sligo town. MGS also delivers projects in the Avalon Centre and The C.R.I.B./Foroige, Rockwood Parade and there are a number of new projects in development in partnership with Cranmore Regeneration. MGS also draws on the wider panel of musicians for short-term projects such as Summer Camps.
