Anna Houston

Pic-Anna-1Anna Houston studied Cello at the Conservatory in her home town, Berne, Switzerland from age 9. After school she attended teacher‘ s college and qualified as primary teacher in 1990. All through her teens she played in different orchestras, classical Trios and Quartets, and also did recording work on Cello and Bass with several Singer-Songwriters. Her love for Irish Traditional Music brought her to Ireland, where she started playing at   sessions on Banjo and Mandolin, and eventually settled in Sligo in 1991.

At the moment she works with Folk Band NoCrows and the Lar Easa Harp and Cello Duo as well as in classical ensembles, namely Sligo Baroque and the Bazzini String Quartet. She has written, performed and recorded with numerous bands including No Crows, Cadenza, The Waterboys, Dervish and Those Nervous Animals. In 2005 she received Distinction in the R.I.A.M. Senior Certificate Cello. She is now studying for a Performance Diploma with The Associated Board (ABRSM). Anna teaches the Cello, Banjo and Kindermusic (for ages 4 – 7) at Sligo Academy of Music. She has been running music classes in playschools around Sligo town on a weekly basis for the last 10 years.
